Learn to Row - Adult Programs

DDRC’s Learn to Row Program has finished for this season.

Each session consists of 8 lessons, but broken into two parts. The first 5 lessons are in a quad sculling boat (4 people, each with 2 oars) and cost $175 +HST. The remaining 3 lessons are in doubles and singles, and cost $90+HST. The small boat lesson fee will be applied to your membership fee.

The reason for a two part system of lessons are for those that have found rowing is not the sport they thought it was, the class finishes after 5 lessons. For those that have found the spark, the small boat classes are an opportunity for you to learn at your own pace, whether that be faster or slower than that of your crewmates. At the end of your small boat lessons, you’ll be fully prepared for membership.

The Adult programs at Delta Deas Rowing Club are open to all those over the age of 19 who would like to transition from a Learn to Row program, or wish to continue rowing while improving their skills.  We offer a Recreational program for those athletes who would like to row at their own pace, be coached on technical skills and who are not currently interested in competing at regattas.  Our Competitive program is for those adult rowers who would like to take the next step into competition at regattas, and prepares the athlete to reach their goals in rowing and racing. Adult rowers regularly compete as a club at a variety of regattas from February through to October each year. Most adult rowers compete in Masters events which start at age 27 (age 21 AA category in some races) we encourage open rowing for our younger adults.

We offer adult row times on Tuesday and Thursday from April through October, weather and light permitting, at 9:30-11:30am and 6:00-8:00pm.  These are unstructured practices with a coach on duty to assist with boating and technical coaching on the water.  On Saturdays, our competitive program runs from 7:30-10 am and involves a longer, structured practice where athletes are assigned to crews.  Our recreational rows are on Saturday from 8-10 and Sunday from 11-1 pm.  The weekend rows run through most of the year, weather permitting.  For more information about our club and the Adult Programs, please contact Julie Stevens at 604-946-3074.
